Sukkot: Feast Of Tabernacles

October 5, 2017 - October 11, 2017

Sukkot (Hebrew, ֹוֹת (without diacritical punctuation, כוכות, sukkōt), “huts” or “tabernacles”) is a Jewish holiday, also called precisely “Feast of Huts” or “of Tabernacles” 7 days in Israel (from 15 to 22 Tishrei, in September – October) and 8 days in the Jewish diaspora (until 23 this month).

It is a festival of biblical origin that recalls the vicissitudes of the Jewish people during their wandering in the desert, and the precariousness of their material conditions symbolized by the precept of dwelling in a temporary hut or sukkah, after the outbreak of slavery in Egypt: “On the fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the solemn feast of tabernacles unto God seven days” (Leviticus 23:34).
